Continued decline

by MikeyRao

When we joined this gym (the south side gym on Edgewood) in 2007, we were impressed with it's convenience, value, and amenities. Over the years, and after a management, we've watched this gym spiral downward in quality and convenience.

Equipment is consistently broken and with months elapsing before it is fixed. Televisions on exercise equipment are often broke. Staff members aren't terribly helpful, and I get the impression that because I don't spend the majority of my time there, I'm not in their "in group." The entire gym now feels like one big commercial with ads and promotions, but I haven't seen much value from the gym in a year.

The aerobic and fitness classes they've offered have been a sole and shining bright spot in my experience, but seem to be diminishing in favor of Mixed Martial Arts enthusiasts. If you enjoy grunting and kickboxing and socializing with meatheads, then it may be the place for you. If you'd like to actually workout and utilize the gym, another locationmay be better for you.

  • Pros: Good classes; Steroid-Enthusiasts
  • Cons: Customer Service; Availability; Poor Equpment

Overall good but I won't re-enroll

by ufmsu

They like to make you think one thing and then do another. Some examples:

(1) Came in because I had a coupon for a free trial, no strings attached. However, strings were attached, they told me if I did not sign up that day that they would not give me the special promotional rate. Suckered in.

(2) Wanted a session or two with a personal trainer but I had to negotiate and still ended up buying six. A week later I get a coupon in the mail for a free session (grr).

(3) I have showed up to exercise classes before and if it's only me the instructor will cancel it :( and be like 'that's not all you came for was it?'

(4) they stereotype members and then assign them to personal trainers based on that. They stuck me with the woman trainer who works with obese and old people (I am a young and fit female but not very strong). I don't even like working with her, don't feel like I get much out of it.

(5) They like to keep the gym clean which is a plus, but they mop right literally around where you're working out with strong harsh smelling chemicals

(6) And the last reason, which is why I am writing this tonight, is because I was kicked out of the gym due to the MMA fight next door. They let me into the parking lot when I said I was coming to workout, but a 1/2 hour into my workout a different guy came up and told me they were closed because they were promoting the fight (even though I was not disturbing anyone). They have also canceled exercise classes to accommodate the new MMA schedule, put down permanent MMA mats in the aerobics room which don't work for the step class

(7) Oh yeah, and they play their music too loud for my taste

The Owner is a Truly Horrible Person

by laphill

The owner is the most rude, pompous business owners I have ever met. He cares nothing about you as member, and he knows nothing about working out. All he cares about is your money and how he's going to take as much of it from you as possible. If you go there by chance (which I hope you don't) avoid him.

  • Cons: owner only wants your money
